Race Report

Dear Competitors
Way back in 1986 someone came up with the idea of organising a 40 mile walking/running event in the glorious Peak District to celebrate Otter Controls’ 40th Anniversary.
We have now completed the 9th running of the event and many, including most of the officials, think it was the best yet.
So 1995 and the tenth “40 Miler” looms, as does 1996 and Otter’s 50th Anniversary. As you will see from the statistics, we were short of a few entries this year, mainly from those who see the event as a one off challenge. It has been suggested to us that there are plenty of people out there who would love to have a go but think 40 miles is too far. We are, therefore, considering a concurrent event in 1995 which ends at Checkpoint 8 – 26.2 miles. If you are interested in details tick the box on the entry form. Also the joke about a 50 miler in 1996 seems to have taken on a more serious note and we are looking at the possibilities of an extra ten miles being added onto the route that year for those who feel 40 is too short!
Whatever happens, the 40 miler will remain the main event and for the few who have completed in every one so far, any thoughts of hanging up the boots will have to be put to one side.
