Race Report
Dear Competitor,
After a year off due to foot and mouth it was good to see the event revived and a considerable number of old faces, running and walking the course as well as supporting the event at drink and food stations. It was aiso nice to see some new faces.
We were lucky in that no changes had to be made to the course meaning that time records were valid and the earlier start meant that static lights were not necessary in Deep Dale.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the organisations and individuals who supported the event by manning check points, traffic controls and providing First Aid support and in particular those members of the committee who gave up so much of their time to ensure the success of the event, Jane Lisser, Julle Chappelle and Bill Allan. Yet again Geoff Worsley came good with his transport arrangements and Graham Jones and Bron Hebblethwaite with their communications network.
On behalf of all the competitors ! weyld like to thank Judy Vale and her team for the food, sustenance and warmth after the event.
The full results are attached but, where one competitor won more than one trophy, prizes were awarded as follows:-
First Male: Andy Brookes in a time of 6.10.29
First Lady: Jackie McConchie in a time of 7.48.00
First Male Vet: David Thornton in a time of 6.16.46
First Female Vet: Jane Forrester in a time of 8.24.00
First Male Super Vet: John Thornton in a time of 6.48.00
First Female Super Vet: Lynne Cooper in a time of 8.08.00
First Male Team: Andy Brookes, David Thornton and John Thornton.
There was no ladies’ team running in 2002 and it is hoped that this will be rectified in 2003.
On behalf of everyone concerned I would like to congratulate all the winners and indeed all those who completed the course.
The race in 2003 will be held on September 27* and, as well as being an event for all-comers, both walkers and runners, it may also feature as the long distance event in the Trail Runners Association calendar. So watch this space!
Application forms are now available (one is enclosed) and can I remind you that we are limited to three hundred competitors; in the meantime I wish you all the best with your training.
