Race Report
Dear Competitors
The months roll on seemingly ever faster. I’m already thinking about next year and the 2007 event hasn’t even been put to bed properly yet.
I mentioned in the news page of the website that the “closure” of Cadster Lane would be considered by Derbyshire County Council either late this year or early next. Recently, with a different hat on, I have been involved in another footpath “consideration” which joined the pipeline a little earlier than Cadster Lane so fingers crossed for September 2009.
Catering is an aspect of the event with which I am not happy. It will be something to work on over the next few months. Even the organiser looked forward to a hot meal at some point in the day.
Certificates for the finishers were issued last week. Please let me know if you haven’t received your finisher’s certificate and a duplicate can be forwarded.
I will now use the words I used last year – “I know that you will all agree that, without the army of volunteers who turn out every year, this event could not take place. They are all due our (mine and yours) most heartfelt thanks whether in catering, on checkpoints, in communications, or back up walkers and drivers.” Some of the volunteers were actually new to us this year and for finding these people I must single out the president of Buxton and District Lions Club, Malcolm Bradbury. He seems to have a bottomless pool of people to call on. The final thank you is not just to Julie Skirvin but also to her own army of volunteers who put out signs from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. By the way the signs are, by now I think, already repaired and sorted ready for next year.
Recently in the news page on the website I asked if anyone had copies of the results booklets for 1998 to 2004. I’m repeating my request now in the hope that out there someone has the odd one. I don’t want to keep them – just borrow. Please don’t send them without e-mailing first using the contact page on the website.
Next years event will, I hope, take place on Saturday 19th September and when all the details are finalised your entry forms will be e-mailed to you or posted if you have not provided an e-mail address.
The entry form will also be on the website – (www.highpeak40.co.uk)
Finally thanks to all of you for taking part and I hope to see you all next year.
