Race Report

Dear competitors
The twenty-seventh High Peak 40 is now behind us. It seemed to come round very quickly after the twenty-sixth.
From comments made on the day and subsequent e-mails I got the impression that most of you (maybe all of you) preferred the amended route in the Cadster Lane area. The twenty-seventh High Peak 40 saw the return to a route which had been used for the years 1998 to 2012 and these were years for which the records were missing. I now have the missing records (thank you Simon Bolton) and I can say that Duncan Harris’s and Tracy Dean’s times this year are new course records — congratulation to both. I should add that prior to 1998 the course was different again.
The 2014 High Peak 40 will be on Saturday 20th September and I hope to see many of you then. I have been threatening on-line entries for some years but I won’t make promises this year. It might happen if I don’t make promises.
I have said a great deal about the volunteers who help out on the day and without whom this event could not take place. Some of them I know but some I have never even met. My most heartfelt thanks go to all of them. I intend to collate all your e-mails (or at least the text) and distribute them as well as I can.
Finally thanks to all of you for taking part and I hope to see you all next year. Don’t forget the date — Saturday 20 September 2014.

PS – a puffa jacket (in its bag) was found at the finish – who left it?
