Race Report
Dear Competitor,
Many apologies for the lateness in sending you details last years’ High Peak 40. A catalogue of problems beset us, both human and technical, not least a series of injury, illness and operations to our irreplaceable secretary Jane who, I am happy to say is on the mend and hopes to be back with us soon.
Last years’ race was exceptional for a number of reasons, firstly the weather was excellent and all who supported runners and walkers seemed to enjoy it. Secondly some of the overall performances were very good with a number of runners getting good or improved times. Congratulations go to Les Footitt who was the first man home in a time of 05.32.58. The first lady home and also the first lady vet was Gill Evans in a time of 08.03.11. The first male vet home was David Clamp, in a time of 06.00.40.
Many congratulations to them and to all runners and walkers who took part. I would also like to thank all the individuals, clubs and organisations who gave considerable time and effort towards making the event very successful, not least the volunteers who manned check points, the intrepid catering team, drivers and radio operators.
A special mention must be made about Bron Hebblethwaite for her dedicated hard work in ensuring communications with all of the check points, and making it possible to maintain the progress of all competitors. Last year, the indefatigable Lou Myers (an example to us all) gave us a superb medal. He asked that this should be presented to someone, not a competitor, but a member of the organisation who has put in considerable effort and time, and whose work enhances the quality of the event. This year, that medal goes to Bron and it is well deserved.
Despite the major problems that beset us, post-race, last year, we are now sure that we are back on track and confident that we will be able to complete all post-race administration (including badges, certificates and results) within one week of the event. So here’s looking forward to the Millennium High Peak 40.
This year the event will take place on Saturday 23rd of September, starting at 8.00am. For the first time we will be advertising the event in sum of the running/long distance walking journals, but numbers will be limited to 300 competitors. An application form is enclosed and we will endeavour to ensure that regular competitors will be guaranteed a place.
Once again many apologies for the delay and we hope to see you again this year.
