Race Report
Dear Competitors,
It was good to see you all at our event, and even better to know that 41% of you had visited us before.
Special thanks this year go to CB81 for radio cover throughout, Buxton Mountain Rescue for manning 2 checkpoints, and St.Johns Ambulance for First Aid cover. Once again Otter Controls Ltd. provided most things on the day including the kitchen sink.
The organisation this year was left to just two of us as Dave and Derek (both being runners) wanted to compete. Derek finished 19th and Dave (the course designer) came in =41st, both commendable performances although they’ve expressed a wish to do better next year.
All preparations were well in hand when suddenly we found ourselves with a full entry list, all the Final Details to send out, and no postal service. With a lot of new competitors (who did not even know the venue or times) it was left to us to contact everyone by phone. This threw the organisation back slightly, and left us with one or two last minute panics and mistakes (Prizes will not be given to those who spotted them), but your comments are always welcome as we still believe we have room for improvement.
The much promised new facilities which we hoped would be in use this year will we assure you be available next year. Showers and proper changing rooms (although the mens may still be a little cramped, the ladies will have plenty of room). We do hope that more ladies will enter next year and thus even things out a bit (club secretaries please note).
This year a team from Biggleswade A.C. entered the event, and brought with them a medal to be awarded by us to anyone we felt specially deserved it. There have been a number of candidates for this medal, but eventually (after consultation with Biggleswade A.C.) the medal was awarded to Nigel & Thelma Dean, a mother and son
combination who have completed all three events to date.
We are now into our fourth year of organising the event, and (as we have already mentioned) would appreciate any comments you would like to make which could lead to improvements for next year, Saturday 23rd September 1989. Entries will be available from April 1989.
Thank you for participating in our event, hope to see you all in 1989.
Yours sincerely
Geoff Worsley Helen Griffith
