Race Report
Dear Competitors,
Thank you for turning out in such rotten weather. We’ve had some bad weather in the past, but at least you could see where you were going. We thought we would be spending most of our time hunting for lost competitors in the fog. Thankfully we didn’t have to.
Although the going was a bit soft, two of our records were broken, one by Sally Newman who knocked 5 minutes 6 seconds off the first ladies’ time, and the other by the ladies’ team ‘Derbyshire Trailers’, who knocked 1 hour 4 minutes off the team record.
Unfortunately, two other records were broken. A competitor’s bag went missing, containing money and a camera as well as spare clothing, and 22 cows were let out onto a road on old Moor. All of the cows have now been found, but the farmer was justifiably upset. We don’t know how the cows got out, but please bear in mind next time you go out walking or running, PLEASE SHUT THE GATES. If anyone knows anything about either incident, it would be helpful to us if you would let us know.
On a lighter note, Lou Myers has been up to his old tricks again, popping up first with a medal for Lynda Brindley, who for the second year has come from America to compete, and then by presenting a big bouquet of flowers to Doris in appreciation of everyone who helps in the canteen.
Special mention needs going to Charlotte Chadderton. At 15 she was too young to enter, but she went round with her mum anyway, and completed the event in better shape than her mum, and many of the other competitors. Yes she was given a certificate and badge, and has asked if she can help with marshalling until she is old enough to enter.
Last year over £200.00 was donated to local charities, and £1,750 to the Cancer Research Campaign, with a further donation through competitors’ sponsorship of nearly £550.00.
After 7 of these events we now have only 8 competitors who have completed all of them.
Hope to see all you runners and walkers again next year on 25th September
Helen, Geoff and Ken
